Basement Walls Australia

Whether in a commercial establishment or at home, our basements double up as a maintenance room, living space and garage apart from water tanks, storage and HVAC space. Basements are also helpful for people who want privacy or want to increase their home value. Without waterproofing, your house would suffer mildew, moulds and peeling as well. Apart from that, you could experience flooding, damps or water puddles due to the heavy rains.

If you have a basement, you must get it waterproofed at least annually. If you don’t upgrade your walls regularly, it can cause structural damage to your home’s basement due to the prolonged underground moisture. As it is regularly exposed to the same, it must be protected accordingly.

When waterproofing your retaining wall systems, choose a waterproofing sealant paint. They resemble the regular colors, but you should apply two thick layers of the same. After letting the coatings dry entirely, you’ll find that your basement won’t soak up rainwater anymore. However, you must not apply this over painted walls. Instead, if you have found cracks on the basement wall, seal the masonry surface of the basement.  This strengthens the foundation, blocks the water from outside and adjusts cracks.

If you’ve noticed basement moisture on the retaining wall systems, check the source. First, determine if the water enters through the window well or cracks in your walls, as you would see wet streaks everywhere. If the entire wall seems wet, check whether the water source is from the basement or outdoors. Once you find the start, you’ll be able to waterproof your walls better. Next, address the apparent reasons for the basement moisture, such as a hose and landscaping. If you have downspouts and gutters, ensure that they are cleaned regularly of deposit water and debris. The surrounding soil must slope down from the foundation by two inches, preventing water from collecting in the basement.

If you have noticed standing water in the basement, remove it immediately to prevent mildew or moulds growth. It’s not simply unhygienic but poses severe health consequences as well. Using electrical appliances in the water causes electrocution, so mop up minor puddling and ventilate with a dehumidifier. To combat severe flooding, switch off the power supply and use the utility pump to remove the water. If you’re looking for guidance in maintaining the basement walls, contact Rise Products.
